New President Elect 2008
Last Tuesday November 04, 2008 we went to the polls all over the nation to elect local, state and presidential candidates. Due to the myriad of current economical problems affecting the USA, we Naive Americans (more than ever) were sold on the concept that CHANGE was needed. Late that evening the results indicated that our new president had been elected. Senator for Illinois Barack Hussein Obama is the current president elect of the United States of America. Congratulations on your win Senator!
We need to analyze the results of the elections from two (2) different points of view.
From the positive angle for the first time in American history we have elected an African American to the presidency of the US. A few decades ago (Martin Luther King Jr.) had a dream and a prediction that sooner or later the White House would be occupied by an African American. That dream in a few weeks will become reality. The point to note is that president elected Obama, due to his heritage, is not just African American. He represents a blend of different backgrounds and races. Today, if we look at the US population, we find that we as a whole come from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The concept that New York City is the melting pot of America is gradually being extended to the entire country. Today, walking in most downtown cities in the Midwest you will see Americans of different ethnic backgrounds some of them speaking different languages among themselves or on their cell phones. CHANGE in this sense is not coming, it is here and it is good for the US and outside the US (OUS) to perceive that there is CHANGE. Our image OUS is in line for a facelift.
Now for reality, on the negative side of things, what will change in the next four (4) years? The Naive American elected a new set of career politicians into office. Some politicians were elected for another six (6) year term. Some were elected for four (4). Very few of the faces were new. Most of them were old. Senator Obama is not an architect, business person, engineer, physician, or plumber that decided to put his life aside for the next four (4) years to induce a badly needed CHANGE in America. No, he is a career politician which while in the Senate had influence on the events that lead to the problems the US faces today. This is not to say that, all the different domestic and foreign problems that the USA faces today were brought by the previous administration, by a Democrat, or by a Republican.
Today the US is facing the fall and decline of a civilization that started in the early 1950s. I am not going to go into full detail in this post because it would take several books to cover the current situation and reasons. I do not have the time to write and I would say that you do not have the spare time to read all about it.
The first step to recovery is admission we have a problem. At that point one may consider possible paths to recovery. The Naive American has to first understand the problems the USA is facing before a plan is proposed, enacted and (most importantly) followed.
As I am writing this psot, president elect Obama is busy putting together his transition team and staff. Only one (1) member has called my attention so far. Warren Buffet is a very successful businessman. I do not know if he is of the opinion that industry and manufacturing jobs lost in the USA to overseas companies can be replaced by service jobs. This replacement and globalization are fallacies created by economists backing up business people who wanted to increase immediate profits and needed to justify the imminent and permanent loss of jobs. The Naive American doesn’t understand that the economy of any country is similar although at a very different scale, to the economy of a family. The family needs to get income from producing goods and services that are needed in their community and with globalization, needed by the world. If the family does not produce enough of the desired goods and services, then loans are the answer. As we all know that is just a temporary and transitional answer. Our bills (in particular for energy and housing) are quite high and our production levels for goods and desirable services are low and decreasing with time.
Hopefully the next administration will enact a completely different system of government and will guide the Naive American to understand that we must change our ways immediately. Change is not going to happen in government and will not magically fix all our problems; we need effort. Career politicians will not induce any type of change that would not benefit their supporters (who provided campaign funds).
The Naive American should make a simple list of promises made by politicians for the next term. Write them down and wait until the next elections in 2012. Bring out the list and see if anything has been done to actually fix (not patch) the issues that afflict our fellow Americans today. The answers we will hear will be in the lines of: “it is a difficult process but TRUST ME things are moving along,” or, “the problem is DEEPER than what was said so we are working on it. Give me another term and things will be fixed.”
Some of the most critical issues in the USA not withstanding any specific order are:
- Housing
- Jobs
- Education
- Energy
- Budget
The Naive American will now have to wait and see how (magically) these issues are resolved in the next four (4) years by the next administration.
